Still waiting on winter. Still not getting any. We did have a couple of 30 degree nights and mornings. But the days are holding at the upper 60s and lower 70s. UGH.

First up is
WEDNESDAY HODGE PODGE from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. This meme is fun and sometimes even poses a challenge (read: she makes us use our noggins!).
1. It's that most wonderful time of the year...tax season! Do you complete your own returns or farm that job out to the professionals?
We have a friend who does our taxes every year. And it's way better than us trying to figure it all out ourselves!
2. This next question comes from
Kansas Bob...he posed it in his response to something I asked in an earlier Wednesday post and I asked him if I could add it to the Hodgepodge some day. Today's the day....
Which do you think has changed you more-love or pain?
I don't know...I guess love has had the greatest affect on me in that it has shown me how to be patient and understanding as well as more accepting. This is not to say that I am a very patient and understanding person though. :)
3.
Tangerine Tango has been named color of the year for 2012. Your thoughts? Would I find this color anywhere in your house? How about in your closet? If not, will you be adding this color to your life in some way in 2012? If you're not sure what tangerine tango looks like click
here.
You would find orange in our house-the main room is decorated in fall colors and Deanie and I are going to paint one of the walls in my 'office' a gorgeous, deep orange. Not much in my closet- but a little bit from when Deanie dated a Clemson soccer player in college. I do like orange- deep, russety orange. Birdie- she ADORES orange. It's her favorite color! And orange is the color of choice of Evwardo and NicholAss! Regardless of what the fashion 'authorities' say, I have not, do not, will not buy a color just because they name it the color of the year. I buy what I like because I like it. And that's that.
4. Are you a collector? What do you collect and does it get admired, used, and/or dusted regularly?
I collect Santas and Nativity sets. They do get admired-especially at Christmas time. They 'live' in their own cabinets so that I don't have to put them away where I can't see them during the year. The week after Thanksgiving, I spread them all over the house. I also collect the Thomas Kincaid Christmas village.
To be honest, I have more than enough of all of it! My mother has given each of us (that's 6 all together) our own ornament(s) and music box/snowglobe thingy (and Nativity for me) every year for the last 28 years. You do the math- but I'm telling you right now, it's too many!
Oh and, dusting? What's dusting?
5. February is National Heart Month...besides a green salad what is one tasty heart healthy dish you like to prepare?
I like to think all my dishes are heart healthy now that we eat healthy 24/7. One thing I like to prepare (I'm actually making this for DoodleBug and Gibbsterrific this morning) is a fruit and granola parfait. The fruit (strawberries, apples and bananas this time) is organic and fresh, the granola is homemade (gluten and sugar free, all organic), and the plain yogurt is organic too! And I'll even pour a little honey in between layers!
6. When was the last time you had car trouble?
I don't think I've had car trouble since we got my Mercedes about 5 years ago. It's a 1989 BEAUTY! Luckily, if any of us do break down, Hubs can fix it right up! Saves us TONS of money!
7. Have you been more demanding on yourself lately or less? Is that a good trend?
Less. And this is probably not a good trend. Though, in the past, I have been so demanding on myself that it became negative. And that's not good either.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Some of you might recall that DoodleBug is an education major. During practicum this semester, she was delighted (no lie, she was THRILLED) to discover that she was going to write four lesson plans AND teach them! Then she discovered that she would be going to the school that is housed in her old elementary school building. THEN she texted me this morning and not only did she get a kindergarten classroom, it's in the very room where she (and all three of her sisters) attended kindergarten (and her dad's 6th grade class was housed in that room too)! Can you say, 'Good omen?'
I am so excited about DoodleBug's enthusiasm about teaching! We are a family of educators- on both sides- and every one of us has always been BIG on education. To see another one come along with all this enthusiasm and desire to make a difference is a thrill in and of itself!
DoodleBug and Gibbsterrific (who is also an education major) dropped the car off here this morning so they could walk up to the school (just a couple of blocks away). I asked them if they wanted me to take them or just walk up. They wanted to walk. It's probably a good thing. It might have been too much nostalgia for this proud, sentimental mom so early in the morning!
Next up is a HUMP DAY HOP from Patrice at
Everyday Ruralty called
Chats on the farmhouse porch! Patrice made a very nice video for us this week! So hop on over there and check it out! And she's maybe making us another one soon featuring Wendell who is only the bestest horse in the whole wide world!
Questions:
- Joyful Keeper asks, "What makes you smile a happy, content smile in the course of a day?" A word from the lovelies about what they are doing, how things are going, etc. And playing with Tucker.
- My Kid's Mom asks, "Are you married, single, or divorced?" Married. And I wouldn't do it again if I was divorced or widowed. It takes a long, long time to train a man. LOL
- Empty Nester asks, " Do you have any home remedies for allergy or the common cold?" Homemade chicken noodle soup- my own recipe. The lovelies and Hubs are convinced it has special properties in it and they always, to this very day, feel better as soon as they eat it. Also, a little cup of green tea with honey, lemon and a splash of brandy.
- Stephanie asks, "How many different addresses did you have growing up?" Just 4. I think. All within 30-45 minutes of each other which was perfect because I never had to live far from my grandparents!
- I've just recently realized that I do enjoy running after all. I hated running in college and assumed that I still did. But, since starting my running program, I realize that I don't hate it anymore. I'm not saying that it's easy! But it does make me feel good. AND, should the pounds come off quicker, I may actually fall in love with it!
